“A quality product is the goal of every project, even if it means not getting every project we bid,” says Brown. Jerry Brown Construction built the first two units at Sutton Knob, and both were constructed to the highest standards possible.
Brown has over 35 years of experience designing and building homes in the Brevard area. He started in the masonry and concrete business in the early 1970’s, and expanded into home construction in the early 1980’s. His first projects were starter homes, and in the mid-1980’s he expanded into middle to upper scale homes. Brown has built several commercial buildings in the area as well, such as Hawg Wild Barbecue and Pisgah Plaza. He has also been involved in the development of several major subdivisions in and around town.
A member of the WNC Green Building Council, Brown built the two Sutton Knob homes to be Energy Star rated. According to Brown, both have above standard insulation – a .27 u-value for the windows, and 16 SEER heat systems. All of the appliances are Energy Star as well. These units also feature the best quality wood burning fireplace inserts with floor to ceiling stone. There are custom wood cabinets, granite counters, and hardwood floors throughout – as well as a large soaking tub, and tile baths and showers. The homes feature spacious 10 foot ceilings and a two car garage. Brown feels that the inviting screen porch and front sitting porch of each home further enhances the surrounding natural beauty. Proud of the building approach taken with the homes, Brown says, “The level of quality in both units was intended to set the tone for the rest of the Sutton Knob project.”
When asked if there was anything in particular that he especially liked about this project, Brown immediately shares, “The first class way the developer has built the roads and amenities.” He also added, “The location is great as it is close to about everything we needed to purchase for the construction.”
Born and raised here on a 200 head dairy farm, Brown is married with two daughters and two grandchildren. He and his wife are have several horses, and Brown endurance races with three of them. “We also enjoy raising hunt and show Chesapeake Bay Retrievers”, adds Brown.
In addition to new home construction, Jerry Brown Construction also builds custom log homes, additions, decks, kitchen and bath renovations, and offers general remodeling. He plans to start a third rental unit for Sutton Knob in the future, so stay tuned as those plans develop.
